first Grade
In first grade, we delve deeper into the topics explored during Kindergarten. Much of the curriculum is "noun-based," concentrating on concrete examples of the Spanish language such as colors, numbers, and shapes. These topics are explored with greater depth and cross-curricular integration. We learn numbers 1-100 as students learn about patterns in their regular classrooms, and learn the same geometric figures in Spanish as they continue to explore them in English. Student-centered vocabulary includes a more extensive study of greetings and feelings, as well as topics such as family and parts of the face. Common classroom elements such as calendar study, classroom objects, and weather are also included in first grade curriculum.
Units of Study: These videos introduce each unit of study with all of the vocabulary covered in class.
Want to help your student?
Given the short amount of weekly class time, practice outside of class is absolutely necessary! Review these videos with your student. Make flashcards, play games, or simply familiarize yourself with the content. Even having brief daily conversations with students about what they are learning in Spanish class can reinforce class lessons, and help your student achieve fluency. Each video reviews every vocabulary word, including proper pronunciation.
